But if you are not one of those, try to have a pet, play and be with them, it is good for your high blood pressure.

Herbal Medicine

Herbal remedies can also be used to lower high blood pressure. You may already know about garlic’s cholesterol-lowering properties. It is found out that garlic can also lower high blood pressure. It is suggested that you consume to an equivalent of one clove of garlic in one day to greatly benefit from the lowering blood pressure property of garlic. You may use garlic in your cooking or you can take it in as it is. Other botanical relatives of garlic are onions, scallion, leeks, chives and shallots.

Another herb that you may try is Hawthorn. Hawthorn helps reduce blood pressure by dilating the coronary arteries, the ones that feed your heart. It is suggested that 100 to 240 milligrams of standardized hawthorn extract may be taken three times a day. If your are currently in medication for your high blood pressure it is best that you talk with your doctor about taking the Hawthorn extract.

Chiropractic

A study that was done in Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto D.C. that includes 21 people with high blood pressure. The group was subdivided into three where one is subjected to chiropractic treatment, one is given a mimic chiropractic adjustment and not the real thing and the other group received no treatment. The study’s result showed that those who received chiropractic treatment have a positive result of lowering their high blood pressure. Those that received sham chiropractic treatment has the same result to those that received nothing which is, their high blood pressure is still the same. So if you think that you want to try to have your spine adjusted, control your local chiropractic practitioners.

Home Remedy

Aside from those things that have been discussed above, there are other things that you can do to lower your blood pressure. You can lower the risk of high blood pressure if you maintain a healthy weight. Try losing some weight, study have shown that a 10-pound loss in weight have a 3-point drop in diastolic pressure. You can lose weight by watching your diet, eat less fat and engage in regular exercise.

Try to quit smoking. Nicotine is found to have a constricting effect to the blood vessels. A constricted blood vessel equals to high blood pressure. So kick that bad habit.

Drink in moderation. Study has shown that a little alcohol can reduce the risk of heart attack to both men and women by raising the levels of high-density lipoproteins (HDL) – the good cholesterol. But drinking more than two shots of alcohol may increase your risk of developing high blood pressure and even heart disease. So much is enough? According to the National High Blood Pressure Education Program, the recommended alcohol consumption should not be more than a drink a day. A drink is equal to 12 ounces of beer, 5 ounces of wine, or a cocktail made of 1.5 ounces of 80-proof distilled spirits.

Try to minimize your consumption of caffeine. Caffeine is a powerful stimulant and has been found out that the consumption of caffeine can increase your blood pressure. So try to lessen your consumption of coffee, tea, cola, cocoa and chocolate.
